B.C. interior highway mountain passes covered with Overnight snowfall
Winters in BC has arrived on the interior highway mountain and covered by the overnight snowfall including the Hope Princeton (Highway 3), Okanagan Connector (Highway 97C) and Coquihalla (Highway 5).
The BC agency has issued a snowfall warning for Coquihalla Highway between Merritt and Hope, with between 10 – 20 centimeters expected snow to fall.
On Sunday morning, a BC Driver said that the Coquihalla was closed between Merritt and Hope due to an incident.
Drivers were asked to use alternate routes via Highway #1 or Highway #3, as no estimated time was mentioned for opening this route.
Chris Gibbons, Environment Canada meteorologist said that The Coquihalla Summit has already picked up from 5 to 10 centimeters on Sunday morning.
He also said that they are going to be locked in this unstable flow which is coming in off the Pacific Ocean.
2 centimeters of snowfall is expected to fall on Okanagan Connector between Kelowna and Merritt with a 70% chance of the flurries overnight.
“Kootenay Pass is receiving 1,500 meters of snow at the summit level. In the wake of the front, rain showers or flurries will continue,” said the weather warning.
Gibbons said that there will be a reprieve heading into a work week.
