Two dead in a fiery crash on Toronto Highway
Two men were killed badly in a multi-vehicle crash that leads to spark into a massive tanker fire on Toronto Highway on Wednesday.
This massive crash happened just a few minutes before 5 p.m. on Highway #407 in Vaughan, Ont., where according to the provincial police, a westbound tanker crossed some lanes of traffic, jumped into a median and collided badly with an eastbound passenger vehicle. Both of the vehicles burst into huge flames and still were smoldering hours later.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, a provincial police spokesman told that he was able to see smoke from few kilometers away as he was heading towards the scene. He said that both the vehicles were “completely gutted in the flames.”
Schmidt confirmed that the victims were a 49-year-old man from Mississauga, Ont.
And a 41-year-old male truck driver from Brampton, Ont.
Andrew Zvanitajs, Deputy Chief with the Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service said that this shocking crash involved a tanker carrying liquid fuel.
“When firefighters reached, they were not able to get close because of the heat coming out of it,” Zvanitajs said in a telephonic interview.
“But this kind of heavy black smoke and the amount of flame lead them to believe that it is a liquid fuel product like diesel or gasoline.”
Zvanitajs said that the crew used some specialized foam to low down the blaze, and after that, the flames were under control nearly by 7 p.m.
Kylie Doerner, York Region spokeswoman said that no one was taken to hospital as the two people were announced dead at the scene.
