Former Stampede Wrestling superstar, Tom Billington, dies
Tom Billington, the Former pro wrestler who was known to the fans as a Dynamite Kid, and a fixture of Stampede Wrestling of Canada died on Wednesday in England, on his 60th birthday.
Tom was best known as a half of the British Bulldogs team, along with Davey Boy Smith, his real-life cousin and Matilda, their mascot and a bulldog.
Harry, Smith’s son, who now wrestles under Davey Boy Smith Jr., called Billington as an inspiration.
News of the death of Billington was shared on the social media, with former and current stars offering their condolences.
“Each wrestler under 200lbs owes a debt of a gratitude to this Dynamite Kid,” tweeted Lance Storm.
“He also inspired too many and help them to get into the sport. He was incredible in the ring. The wrestling T-shirt that I ever purchased was a British Bulldogs shirt, that I wore to WrestleMania IV. #RIP.”
Billington was born in England and made his pro wrestling debut in the year 1975.
Billington was five foot eight in height and 228 pounds in weight, was considered too small for a pro wrestler.
In 1978, he arrived in Calgary to join Stampede Wrestling, which was run by the legendary Hart family.
Right from there he spent some time working in Japan before joining WWF i.e The World Wrestling Federation which is known today as WWE i.e World Wrestling Entertainment.
