Caller at Bishop Ryan Secondary threatened to harm students and teachers, before lockdown

Students at The Bishop Ryan Catholic Secondary School spent silent hours in the darkness on Monday morning as a tactical police team slowly worked on its way through the school building following the two phone calls where someone called up and threatened “to bring a sharp weapon to the school and harm students and teachers.”

Outside, worried parents of students turned out the surrounding streets into parking lots, hugging each other in the rain and wind. With their cell phones pressed to their ears in the hopes of hearing a voice of their children inside from the school, they all expressed their frustration at the lack of information coming from the officials.

Will Mason, Superintendent at Hamilton police said that the threatening calls are made by a male voice. The school staff put the school into the lockdown and called 911.

Mason said that the man threatened to get a weapon inside the schools and to harm teachers and students. Police determined that there was no “evidence to validate this threat,” but are investigating continuously.

    No Staff or Student Injured
No staff or students were injured in this incident, as two students were taken out from the school on the stretchers because they were not well and feeling faint due to this incident.

He added that police officials are searching the school building and were checking for this “obvious threats” but this didn’t mean putting down the students.

“We were confident going through the school building with what we have,” said Mason.
