Canadian government ‘concerned’ as China detains ex-diplomat
Michael Kovrig, Former Canadian Diplomat has been arrested and detained in China without any explanation, the Canadian government confirmed on Tuesday.
Justin Trudeau, Canadian Prime Minister said that they are well aware of the situation of detaining a Canadian in China. He also said that they have been in a direct contact with the Chinese representatives and diplomats and also are engaged on file, that they take this very seriously, and also are giving constant assistance to the family.
According to a written statement from The Global Affairs Canada because of the Privacy Act of Canada, no any further information will be disclosed about the case of Kovrig, who served in China as a Canadian diplomat.
Chinese officials not even have given any official explanation on the arrest of Kovrig.
Ralph Goodale, Public Safety Minister said the Canadian officials were “sparing no effort” to make sure that Kovrig is safe and well behaved treated.
“The Canadian diplomatic officials are in constant touch with their Chinese counterparts to explain that how seriously Canadians see this issue,” Goodale said. “We are deeply concerned and with her officials too which will be taking all of the appropriate actions.”
The Chief Financial Officer, Meng Wanzhou, awaits the best possible extradition to the United States of America to face the fraud charges. She is accused of misleading the multinational banks about Huawei’s controls operating in Iran, putting all those banks at risk of violating the U.S. sanctions.
