Tom Wilson suspended by NHL in 20 games for illegal hit to head

Tom Wilson, Washington Capitals has been suspended by NHL in 20 games for illegal hit to head on St. Louis Blues centre to Oskar Sundqvist.

NHL announced supplemental discipline on Wednesday after Wilson’s hearing with NHL’s department of the player safety. The Wilson’s in-person hearing meant that Wilson was eligible to be suspended for six or more games.

Wilson’s hit on Oskar Sundqvist happened on Sunday in the second phase of a pre-season contest.
The 24-year-old Wilson signed a deal of $31-million in July, which means that he has to give an amount of around $1.26 million from salary. The money will go to the emergency fund for players. Wilson has an option of formal appeal to the suspension.

Mike Yeo, Blues coach told reporters that Sundqvist was “not so good”. The Blues placed Sundqvist on the injured reserve on Tuesday and this remains unclear that how long he will be out.

“Wilson delivers a forceful and high hit, which makes the head of Sundqvist as the main point of contact on a hit where such a head contact was avoidable and that causes an injury,” a video also has been released by the NHL.
